This member of the Haemodoraceae family was given this name by Carl Linnaeus in 1759. It is found in grass land of South Africa, growing in sand or another well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The rhizome will grow to five centimetres, the plant from 20-70 centimetres height. The flowers are pale yellow to bright apricot, sometimes with dark markings. The genera is named after E. J. von Wachendorff, a Dutch Professor of Botany. The species name is referring to the flower clusters (panicles). Photo by Mary Sue Ittner, near Clanwilliam.
