This member of the Fabaceae family was given this name by John Patrick Micklethwait Brenan in 1963. It is found in southern Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, growing in a well drained soil or even grit with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow large, the vine-like branches to 200 centimetres or more in height. The flowers are bright yellow.

The genera name refers to the torulose seed. The species name means "silvery, of silvery tint and lustre" for the leaves. From Kenya, in Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew - Herbarium Specimens.
