This member of the Crassulaceae family was given this name by Hellmut R. Toelken in 1978. It is found in Namibia and South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The stems can grow to 3,5 centimetres and reach a length of 25 centimetres. The flowers are bright yellow to greenish yellow.
The genera name is an anagram of Cotyledon; a closely-related genus. The species name from Latin rubrum, meaning 'red', and from the Latin v enosus, meaning 'veined' for the reddish striations on the leaves.
