This member of the Crassulaceae family was given this name by Hellmut R. Toelken in 1978. It is found in the dry Namaqualand covering parts of Namibia and western South Africa. It grows among rocks and in well drained soil with little water and lots of sun. The stem can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the plant can reach 30 centimetres. The flowers are white and reddish.
The genera name is an anagram of Cotyledon; a closely-related genus. The species name after John Theodore Buchholz,1888–1951, an American botanist, specialising in gymnosperms. This is a winter-grower. Young plant from Kakteen.ch. Another plant from Tierraseca-cactus.com.
