This member of the Taccaceae family was named by John Bellenden Ker Gawler in 1812. It is found in eastern Himalayas from Bhutan to Northeast India. It preferring a well drained rich soil like sphagnum, lots of water and not too much sun. The rhizomes will grow up to eight centimetres in diameter, the whole plant can grow up to 1,2 meter. The spectacular flowers are white to light pink.

The species name from the Indonesian name, taka.

The species name from Latin integri - folia; 'with entire leaves'.

This plant needs a high humidity. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Taccaceae is now part of the Dioscoreaceae.
