This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Deidré A. Snijman in 1994. It is only found in Dornbosch near Clanwilliam in South Africa, growing in sand with little water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow to five centimetres, the plant to four. The flowers are white.
The genera name from Latin, struma; 'a cushion-shaped swelling', and - aria which relates to 'possessing', a name that refers to the swollen base of the style. The species name means 'claw-like'. This is a winter-grower.
