This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Deidré Anne Snijman in 2005. It is found in the Zonneberg/Sonberg Mountain Range in southern Namibia, growing in a well drained but rich soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are white.
The genera name from Latin, struma; 'a cushion-shaped swelling', and - aria which relates to 'possessing', a name that refers to the swollen base of the style. The species name from Latin; speciosa meaning ‘beautiful’ for the head of flowers. Flower in late autumn, followed by the leaves during winter.
