Common misspelling: Strumaria barbarae. Even Tropicos had it, till I pointed it out.

This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Anna Amelia Obermeyer in 1981. It is found in south-western Namibia down into north-western South Africa, growing in a well drained soil, careful with the water and some sun. The bulb can grow to three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are white, tinted with light pink spots near the base.

The genera name from Latin, struma; 'a cushion-shaped swelling', and - aria which relates to 'possessing', a name that refers to the swollen base of the style. The species name is named after the excellent botanical artist; Barbara Jeppe, 1921-1999. This is a winter-grower. The flowers by Nhu Nguyen, Pacificbulbsociety.org.
