This member of the Convolvulaceae family was given this name by Johannes Gottfried Hallier in 1898. It is found in Mozambique and north-western South Africa, growing in rich but well drained soil with some water and some sun. The vines grow up to seven meters, the caudex 30 centimetres in diameter and the flowers are pale blue.

The genera name from Greek stiktos; 'spotted' and kardia 'heart', referring to the spotted, heart-shaped leaves. The species name after John Medley Wood,1827-1915, a South African botanist.
