This member of the Menispermaceae family was described by Friedrich Ludwig Emil Diels in 1910. It is found in Asia, growing in a well drained but rich soil with some to lots of water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres or more, the vines to eight meters or more. The flowers are greenish yellow to orange. The genera name after Stephan Ladislaus Endlicher, 1804-1849, an Austrian botanist who formulated a major system of plant classification. The species name after Jean Baptiste Louis Pierre, 1833-1905, a French botanist known for his Asian studies.
