This member of the Menispermaceae family was given this name by John Miers in 1866. It is found in the forests of north-eastern India, Assam, East Himalaya, Myanmar, Thailand and Nepal, growing in a rich soil with some to lots of water and some sun. It is found from 1300-2100 meters. The caudex can grow to 40 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five metres in height. The flowers are greenish.
The genera name after Stephan Ladislaus Endlicher, 1804-1849, an Austrian botanist who formulated a major system of plant classification. The species name means 'bearing (little) glands'. A leaf from EfloraofIndia.
