STATHMOSTELMA FORNICATUM

This member of the Asclepiadaceae* family was given this name by Arthur Allman Bullock in 1953. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambiaand and Zimbabwe (Namibia?), growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex will grow to six centimetres or more, the single stem up to 35 centimetres. The inflorescence are from greenish to bright yellow.

The genera name from Greek stathmos; 'plumb line' and stelma; 'crown' or 'garland', for the straight appendages of the inner corona segments. The species name from Latin fornicatus, meaning 'vaulted'. ') Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016 is Asclepiadaceae now part of the Apocynaceae.
