SINNINGIA RAMBOI

This member of the Gesneriaceae family was given this name by Gabriel Emiliano Ferreira, Jorge Luiz Waechter and Alain P. Chautems in 2014. It is found in a small area near the Canmbará do Sul municipal, 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean on the boundary between the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul in eastern Brazil. It is growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to nine centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are red with a white throat. The genera is named after Wilhelm Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The species name after Father Balduino Rambo, 1906–1961, a botanist of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, who collected the first specimen.
