This member of the Gesneriaceae family was given this name by Harold Emery Moore in 1975. It is found in Brazil and Paraguay, growing in well drained but rich soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow up to 25 centimetres in diameter and the whole plant will raise for up to 15 or even 30 centimetres. The flowers are red. The genera is named after Wilhelm Sinning,1792–1874, a gardener of the Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The species name means "bigfoot".
