This monoecious member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this name by Monique Keraudren in 1962. It is found in south-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil in a gneiss area with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex might grow to four centimetres in diameter, the 5-angled, longitudinally grooved branches might reach 30 centimetres in length. The flowers are yellowish, the fruits red when ripe, one centimetre.
The genera is n amed after A. Seyrig, a French entomologist. The species name after Jean M. Bosser, 1922-2013, a French botanist and agronomical engineer, working on Madagascar.
