This member of the Pedaliaceae family was described by Nicholas Edward Brown in 1906. It is found in Botswana, northern South Africa and Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The stem can grow to two meters in diameter and five meters in height. The flowers are white to crème-coloured, and the plant can be reproduced both by seeds and cuttings.

The genera name means 'Sesamun bush' a member of the same family. The species is named after Major E. J. Lugard, an English botanist. The flower by JP Félu, Zimbabweflora.co.zw. The fruit by R Burrett, Zimbabweflora.co.zw.
