This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was described by Joseph Marie Henry Alfred Perrier de la Bâthie in 1931. It is found on western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. It will grow up to 20 centimetres high from a four centimetre bulb, and it can be reproduced both by seeds and bulbs.
The genera name from Latin rhodo; 'rose' and the Greek kodon; 'bell' for the flowers. The species name means 'round', again for the flowers. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae. Rhodocodon sp 2.
