This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Hamilton Paul Traub in 1957.
It is found in Peru, where it grows in well-drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The leaves will get 30 centimetres long, the bulb 15 centimetres in diameter. The flowers are green with little white, and the plant can be reproduced by seeds and by offsets. It is an evergreen plant. The genera name after Werner Rauh, 1913-2000, a German botanist and specialist on Madagascan succulents. The species name as it occurs in Peru.
