PTEROXYGONUM GIRALDII

This member of the Polygonaceae family was given this name by Carl Lebrecht Udo Dammer and Friedrich Ludwig Emil Diels in 1905. It is found in Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan of China, growing in a rich soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to fifteen centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to more than three meters in height. The flowers are white. The genera name from Latin ptero; 'winged' and Latin oxzgonum; 'sharp-angled'. The species name for Giuseppe Giraldi, 19th century Italian missionary in China.
