PTERODISCUS KELLERIANUS

This member of the Pedaliaceae family was given this name in 1896 by Hans Schinz. It is found in Ethiopia, Kenya and central to north-eastern Somalia, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres, and depending on the location, the plants grow from five to fifteen centimetres high. The flowers vary as well, gong from yellow over pink to red.

The genera name from Latin ptero; 'winged' and Latin discus; 'disc'. The species name after Prof. Dr. A. Keller, a Swiss botanist, visiting Ethiopia in 1891.
