This member of the Pedaliaceae family was described by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1894. It's found in Tanzania and Mozambique. The flowers are bright yellow to orange. The few short, swollen stems gets annual branches to 20 centimetres. The caudex can grow to five centimetres or more.
The genera name from Latin ptero; 'winged' and Latin discus; 'disc'. The species name from Latin angustus; 'narrow' and Latin - folius; '-leaved'. In the wild, the growing area might be swamped for part of the year.
