This member of the Anacardiaceae family was given this name by Joseph Nelson Rose in 1897. It is found in Mexico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow to 35 centimetres and the little tree up to three meters in height. The flowers are cream coloured.
The genera name from Greek; pseudo; 'false' and Smodingium, another member of the family. The species name after the many leaves. The flower by Irving Rosas Ruiz, Conabio.
