PEPEROMIA TEPOZTECOANA

This member of the Peperomiaceae family was given this name by Guido Mathieu in 2011. It is found in a tiny area in Mexico, growing in a rich soil with quite some water water and little or no sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter and seven in length. The leaves reach 25 centimetres while the greenish flowers are a bit higher.

The genera name means 'pepper-like', not as to appearance but as to kinship. The species name referring to the pyramid El Tepozteco of which foot it was found by Cyrus G. Pringle in 1898. ') Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016 is Peperomiaceae now part of the Piperaceae. A leaf by Marco Hijuelos, who found it in the vicinity of the pyramid of El Tepozteco.
