This member of the Peperomiaceae family was given this name by Gustav Adolf Hugo Dahlstedt in 1900. It is found in north-western Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, growing in a rich soil with quite some water and not that much sun. The caudex can grow to two or three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five centimetres in height. The flowers are greenish.
The genera name means 'pepper-like', not as to appearance but as to kinship. The species name as it was first found in Peru. ')Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016 is Peperomiaceae now part of the Piperaceae. A dry plant from Tropicos.org.
