PEPEROMIA ELATIOR

This member of the Peperomiaceae* family was given this name by Guido Mathieu in 2011. It is found near Luvianos in central Mexico, growing in a rich soil with quite some water and little or no sun. The caudex can grow to one centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are greenish.

The genera name means 'pepper-like', not as to appearance but as to kinship. The species name refers to the inflorescences with relatively short rachis but distinctly long peduncle. ')Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016 is Peperomiaceae now part of the Piperaceae.
