PENIOCEREUS MACULATUS

This member of the Cactaceae family was given this name by Ladislaus Cutak in 1951. It is found in Guerrero in Mexico, growing in grit with little water and some sun. The caudex can grow up to seven centimetres in diameter, the leaves/stems up to 2 meters long. The nocturnal flowers are large and white. The genera name from pene; 'thread' and Cereus; another member of the Cactaceae family, as to plant's form. The species name means 'spotted' for the marbled epidermis of the stems.
