This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter in 1912. It is found from central Namibia down to northern west South Africa, growing in grit or an other well drained soil with little water and lots of sun. The stem only grow to one and a half centimetre in diameter, but the plant can reach a high of 30 or even 60 centimetres. The flowers are white with small, dark pink spots.

The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name from Latin xeros; 'leaves' and Greek phylos; 'plant'. This is a winter-grower. Origin in Aus, Namibia. Unfortunately in the dry season. Vered A. Mann have this rose coloured flowered form with succulent leaves. A flower by Vered A. Mann.
