This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in 1824. It is found in the summer rain areas of South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow up to five centimetres, the whole plant up to 20 centimetres or more. The flowers are white.
The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'violet-flowered', but rather pale, if you ask me. The caudex of a young plant by Vered A. Mann. Photo by Vered A. Mann. Photo by Vered A. Mann.
