This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Christiaan Hendrik Persoon in 1806. It is found in the central South Africa, growing in a sandy and well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five centimetres in height. The flowers are from white over cream and yellow to pink with red markings..
