This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name as a Pelargonium by Charles Louis L'Héritier de Brutelle in 1789. It is found on the south-west coast of South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stems can grow to four centimetres in diameter, and reach 80 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow.
The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'swollen on one side'.
