This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Charles Louis L'Héritier de Brutelle in 1792. It is found in the southern part of South Africa, growing in lime or sandstone gravel with some water and lots of sun. The swollen rots can each grow to one and a half centimetres in diameter, forming a 20 centimetre bunch, the entire plant to 22 centimetres in height. The flowers are from white to pink with darker markings.
The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'two-petaled'. as the lower are minute. The swollen roots by Mary Sue Ittner.
