This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in 1824. It is found in south western South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to twelve centimetres in height. The flowers are pale to bright pink.
The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name is the traditional medieval name for Ranunculus ficaria "Celandine". This is a winter-grower. Photo by Vered A. Mann.
