PELARGONIUM CALEDONICUM

This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus in 1932. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are white to pale pink with red markings.

The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name referring to the origin of the plant; near Caledon which is a town in the Overberg region;Western Cape province in South Africa. The different leave shapes by Vered A. Mann.
