This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Elizabeth M. Marais in 1991. It is found in the Cape Province in South Africa, growing in sandy or other well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to two and a half centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to ten or even 30 centimetres in height. The flowers are pale yellow to cream coloured with red markings on the upper two petals. The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'needle-like' or 'needle-shaped'. This is a winter-grower, but it flowers in summer. The flower by Donn Reiners, Geraniaceae.com.
