This member of the Apocynaceae family was given this name by John Jacob Lavranos in 1996. It is found in Mahajanga; Madagascar, growing in a sandy or other well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 50 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 40 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellowish white.
The genera name from Greek; pachys; 'thick' and Greek podion; 'small foot' for the thick caudiciform trunk, formed by some species. The species name is from the Latin inopinatus, meaning 'unexpected'. The flowers by Franck Rakotonasolo, Inaturalist.org. Another plant from 5pmtwcaudex.com.
