This member of the Asteraceae family was found by John Jacob Lavranos in the Cape Province, South Africa in 2000. It grows in grit with little water and some sun. The caudex grows to ten centimetres in diameter, the leaf to five centimetres. The flowers are yellow, and besides seeds, the plant can be reproduced by leaf-cuttings.
The genera name from the Greek othone, 'a linen cloth or napkin', in allusion to the downy covering of some of the earlier known species. The species name for Gyles 'Guy' Wrinkle, 1947-2013, an US-American educator / technician and the West Los Angeles Junior College, succulent plant enthusiast, cycad grower and collector of sea shells and insects..
