OTHONNA PAPAVEROIDES

This member of the Asterceae family was given this name by John Hutchinson in 1917. It is found in the Gifberg and Nardous Mountain in western South Africa, growing in a well drained sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 2,5 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to ten centimetres in height, although the leaves can reach 23 centimetres and the inflorescence 35 centimetres, with the yellow flowers.

The genera name from the Greek othone, 'a linen cloth or napkin', in allusion to the downy covering of some of the earlier known species. The species is named for the leaves resembles to those of Papaver in the Papaveraceae family. This is a winter-grower.
