OTHONNA BULBOSA

This member of the Asteraceae family was given this name by Carl von Linnaeus in 1753. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to ten centimetres in height, 35 with the flowers, which are yellow.

The genera name from the Greek othone, 'a linen cloth or napkin', in allusion to the downy covering of some of the earlier known species. The species name for the bulbouse base of the plant.
