This member of the Hyacinthaceae* family was given this name by Johan Martin Christian Lange in 1891. It is found in Spain (and was known from Morocco), growing in a well drained limestone soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The bulb can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 30 centimetres in height, 90 with the inflorescence. The flowers are white.

The genera name from Greek: ornithos; 'bird' and gala; 'milk'. The species name after Julien Reverchon, 1834-1905, a French botanical collector. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae. A scanned bulb by Manuel B. Crespo.
