This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was described by Dr. Graham Williamson. It is found in the north-western part of South Africa and in Namibia, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The bulbs will grow up to two centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to twelve centimetres height. The flowers are white. The genera name from Greek: ornithos; 'bird' and gala; 'milk'.

The species name means 'ornament-mountain'. Well, they do look good in the mountains. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae. Richtersveld National Park, 20 km east of Sendelingsdrift.
