OECEOCLADES DECARYANA

This member of the Orchidaceae family was given this name by Leslie Andrew Garay and Peter Geoffrey Taylor in 1976. It is found in Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe, growing in a rich and well drained soil with quite some water water and some sun. The pseudobulbs grow to two and a half to three centimetres with 20 centimetre leaves. The 50-80 centimetre inflorescence have 9-20 flowers, yellow to greenish with purple or red nerves.

The genera name from Greek oikeios; 'special' or 'separate', and Greek klados; 'branch', probably for the short branches of the former Angraecum maculatum and the mottled leaves, according to Genaust, l.c. It was published by John Lindley in Edwards' Bot. Reg. 18: sub t. 1522. 1832. The species is named after Raymond Decary, 20th century plant collector.
