This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was described by William Watson in 1904. It is found in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb grows to four centimetres in diameter, the leaves up to 30 centimetres long. The flowers are right pink.

The genera name from nereids referring to the sea-nymphs in Greek mythology. The species name after Athelston Bowden, who introduced the species. This is N. b. spp wellsii by Leigh Voigt.
