This member of the Rubiaceae family was given this name by Camilla Rose Huxley and Matthew H. P. Jebb in 1991. It is found on Irian Jaya in eastern Indonesia, growing as an epiphyte with quite some water and some sun. The description and herbarium specimens lack details, and little is known about this species. It seems like the branches will reach 15 centimetres, and the caudex 12-15 centimetres. The flowers are white.
The genera name from Latin Myrme; 'ant' and Latin -phyto; 'plant'. The species name after Einar Naumann,1891–1934, A Swedish botanist. A key to the genera of the HYDNOPHYTTNAE is found on the Myrmecodia alata page.
