MYRMECODIA JOBIENSIS

This member of the Rubiaceae family was given this name by Odoardo Beccari in 1884. It is found in western Papua New Guinea, growing as an epiphyte, but it thrive in a well drained organic soil with quite some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to fourteen centimetres or more in diameter, the entire plant to 50 centimetres or more in height. The flowers are white. The genera name means 'ant head'.
