MORINGA PYGMAEA

This member of the Moringaceae family was given this name by Bernard Verdcourt in 1985. It is found in northern inland Somalia, growing in a well drained sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow large, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow or dull purplish brown.

The genera name from the Malabar vernacular name; Moringo. The species name means "dwarf, low" for the size of the plant. Useful fact: Tubers are cut and crushed and put in water containers for livestock to get rid of stomach parasites. The fruits by Mats Thulin.
