This member of the Moringaceae family was given this name by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1902. It is found only in cultivation, but was found in south-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The stem can grow to one meter in diameter, and the tree can reach a height of 20 to 25 metres. The flowers are white to cream coloured.

The genera name from the Malabar vernacular name; Moringo. The species name after the botanist Hildebrandt, who collected the first specimen in 1880. They do nice on Gran Canaria. Photo by Mark E. Olson. The flowers. Photo by Philippe Corman. The seeds. Nice little tree.
