This member of the Iridaceae family was described by Peter Goldblatt in 1977. It is found in Namaqualand, southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The corm will grow up to 2,5 centimetres in diameter, the curly leaves up to ten centimetres long. The flowers are white to blue with yellow spots.
The genera name is named after Johannes Moraeus, father-in-law of Linnaeus. The species name means 'twisted' for the leaves. The flowers by Alan Horstmann, Pacificbulbsociety.org.
