MONSONIA VANDERIETIAE

This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Focke Albers in 1996. It is found in the Cape Province in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The stems will grow up to five centimetres in diameter and 30 centimetres long. The flowers are pale pink. The genera is named for Lady Ann Monson, 18th century plant collector on the Cape of Good Hope and in Bengal. The species name is named after Mrs. Van de Riet, who collected the type. This is a winter-grower.
