MONSONIA INERMIS

This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Focke Albers in 1996. It is found in the south-western Namibia and north-western South Africa, growing in grit or other well drained soil with little water and lots of sun. The stem can grow to four centimetre in diameter and 30 centimetres high. The flowers are pink. It starts flowering in late summer and the leaves come in the early winter. The genera is named for Lady Ann Monson, 18th century plant collector on the Cape of Good Hope and in Bengal. The species name meaning 'unarmed' as it have no spines. This is a winter-grower.
