MONSONIA HERREI

This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Focke Albers in 1996. It is found in western South Africa, growing in grit or another well drained soil with little water and lots of sun. The stems can grow up to four centimetres in diameter and 35 centimetres long. The flowers are white. The genera is named for Lady Ann Monson, 18th century plant collector on the Cape of Good Hope and in Bengal. The species name for Dr. Hans Herre, 20th century botanist and expert on South African succulents. This is a winter-grower. A flower by Vered A. Mann.
